Events Sponsorship Volunteers Vendor Opportunities

NEWSED, in cooperation with the Santa Fe Drive Redevelopment Corporation, produces a series of outdoor events annually. Our theme, "Celebrate Culture", is a signature component of every event. By design, the special cultural series highlights Latino cultures, but incorporates the beauty of all cultures. The "Celebrate Culture" theme is built on the strength of diversity.

The series began a number of years ago with the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. It originated as a marketing strategy to showcase the vitality and amenities on Santa Fe Drive, a then-struggling commercial corridor in West Denver. The Cinco de Mayo Festival started out as a relatively small event, but has grown over the years to become the largest Cinco de Mayo Celebration in the United States, and has spun off a series of "Celebrate Culture" events.

The Arts & Culture Division of NEWSED CDC is directed by Pauline Madrid Johnson. The goal of this division is to develop the arts and culture district along the historic Santa Fe Drive corridor and to promote cultural awareness.

In the spirit of "The Cry for Independence," this celebration unites people from all backgrounds for a commemorative celebration of cultural expression, unity, and well being.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
"El Grito" de la Independencia began Father Miguel Hidalgo's independence movement in Mexico, which later spread to all parts of Latin America. "El Grito" de Dolores (Cry of Sorrows) was the rousing speech which called for a new government and redistribution of land which took into consideration the rights of the native people of Mexico. On this day in 1810, Father Hidalgo's forces marched toward Mexico City under the banner of the Virgin de Guadalupe. These events shaped history and gave rise to a people that today reside in the U.S. and have ancestral ties to Mexico and Latin America.

NEWSED Community Development Corporation (NEWSED C.D.C.) and Santa Fe Drive Redevelopment Corporation (SFRDC), will host the 12th annual "El Grito" de la Independencia Fiesta on September 16-17, 2006, on beautiful Santa Fe Drive. This event is held to commemorate this important event in history which represents freedom and a positive acceptance of the diversity of our greater Denver community.

Over 75,000 attendees jammed the streets during last year's record-breaking event, which doubled the attendance from the previous year. Our 2006 event is expected to grow even larger!

EVENT OVERVIEW
The 2006 Mexican Independence Day Celebration is scheduled for September 16-17, 2006. This is the 11th year that this event has been produced by NEWSED Community Development Corporation and Santa Fe Drive Redevelopment Corporation (SFDRC).

This year, the day's events will include:
- food and beverage vendors
- international gifts/handcrafted items
- children's games and rides
- live and continuous entertainment throughout the day
- an Artist's Gallery (Galeria Artistas)
- an Aztec Market (Mercado Azteca)

The goals for the 2006 "El Grito" de la Independencia Fiesta are:
- to share in the beauty and pride of Latino history and culture
- to recognize the diversity of the greater Denver community
- to showcase the artistic talent of our community

(NEWSED Community Development Corporation and Santa Fe Drive Redevelopment Corporations).

Sponsorship
There is no better way to target the powerful Hispanic demographic in Colorado than through sponsorship of NEWSED's "Celebrate Diversity" series of events. Nationally, Hispanics spend over $350 billion annually. The fact that Hispanics are soon to become the majority population within the United States presents a tremendous potential for developing a new and lucrative consumer base.

In addition, NEWSED's events are designed to attract audiences well beyond the Hispanic demographic. NEWSED has developed partnerships with a variety of cultural organizations, and has built its events to highlight the diverse cultural spectrum of the Denver and Colorado markets.

Opportunities for reaching this market are made available to you by supporting local events and organizations that serve this population. A wide variety of sponsorships are available for companies of all sizes, ranging from presenting sponsorships through sampling opportunities.

Volunteers
Volunteering is fun - and a great way to give back to our vibrant community! NEWSED needs literally hundreds of volunteers to put on its events throughout the year. Volunteer commitments can be as limited as day-of-event duties, and can be structured into more long-term temporary volunteer positions. Put your skills - and your smiles - to work for the cause of diversity!

Vendor Opportunities
Our "Celebrate Diversity" series of events provides a powerful opportunity for businesses, community organizations, nonprofit groups and artists to speak directly with a potential audience of hundreds of thousands of people. Our audiences represent one of the most powerful demographics available - a group that's responsible for more than twenty-five percent of metropolitan Denver's purchasing power. Nationally, Hispanics spend over $350 billion annually. The fact that Hispanics are soon to become the majority population within the United States presents a tremendous potential for developing a new and lucrative consumer base.

Our events feature a wide variety of exhibitors, including:
BUSINESSES - companies that want to speak directly to potential clients and/or employees
ARTISTS/ARTISANS - a diverse group of artists and artisans sell directly to our attendees
COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS & NON-PROFITS
GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES
HEALTH AND WELFARE AGENCIES
FOOD VENDORS

The possibilities for exhibitors are limited only by your imagination! For more information about vendor opportunities at NEWSED's "Celebrate Diversity" events, contact:
